The Beyonce Factor + Blue Ivy Carter

This is not one of those obsessive posts that will consist of me proclaiming and doting over how wonderful, magnificent, epic, beautiful, amazing, sweet, terrific, outstanding, smashing, astonishing, and extraordinary Beyonce and Jay-Z’s marriage and new baby are. Also, this will not be one of those posts where I will be bashing Beyonce for “faking a pregnancy” or arguing that her and Jay-Z are affiliated with the Illuminati (a cult) with supporting evidence from a trillion different internet sources that are about as credible as the National Inquirer. This is, however, a post where I will express  how disgusted I am with how society has glorified and idolized these two individuals.

When I heard Beyonce had her baby, I navigated to my Black gossip site of choice to read the article about it because I was curious and casually interested in things like, what she named the baby, what security was implemented, etc. I did not, however, take to Twitter to express my undying love and passion for “Princess Blue”, “Baby Carter”, or cosign with the rumors that the baby’s name has something to do with the Illuminati.  I love Beyonce’s music as much as the next girl who is in her early 20s. But, the world’s obsession with Beyonce, her marriage, Jay-Z, and their baby is nothing short of sickening.

On one side, we have the Beyonce and Jay-Z Enthusiasts. You may have seen them on Facebook and Twitter. These are the people who participated in trending topics where they picked out names for Beyonce’s child like Beyonce was specifically seeking their personal input on what to name her baby. These are the same people who will get heated and defend Beyonce like she put their children through college (or put them through college), is paying their light bill, or any of their bills for that matter. These are the same people calling Beyonce and Jay-Z’s daughter “Princess Blue” or talking about this baby, whom they probably haven’t even seen a picture of, like she is their personal savior.

On the other side, you will find the people who hate Beyonce no matter what she does. These are the people on gossip sites that ranted about Beyonce not slowing down her career to have a child. These are the same people who continued to bash her relentlessly after she finally got pregnant. These are the people who claimed that Beyonce faked her pregnancy. These are the same people who claim to be so tired of Beyonce and call her an attention whore, yet they know her every move including, how many times a day she uses the bathroom, what time she got up this morning, how many stretch marks she has, what kind of weave she wears, etc.

There is a fine line between being curious and fandemonium. There is a fine line between a casual interest and straight up stalker status. There is a fine line between being slightly annoyed when you see a Beyonce commercial because you think she is overexposed and bashing her mercilessly because your own “life” is pathetic and miserable.

Yes, Beyonce is famous, but she simply gave birth! Just in case you didn’t realize it, your mother and grandmother gave birth too. Beyonce and Jay-Z are filthy rich, but they are people just like you and me. Being rich and famous does not make one superhuman or worthy of being glorified and idolized. Just because Beyonce and Jay-Z are rich and famous doesn’t mean it’s okay to say cruel, hurtful, and disgusting things about them based on falsehoods and misinformation. Our society has taken “celebrity” way too far. I just wish people would leave them alone already. No wonder Beyonce and Jay-Z are so serious about security. Some people (their fans included) are just crazy.

    OMG YES.
    I agree.
People made this out to be like it was a life changing factor in the world.
She gave birth like every other woman in the word.
Only thing that struck me wrong was I read she rented the Maternity Ward & had maximum security. Nobody could see their kids. That didnt sit with me too well.

YES YES YES YES, sometimes I read your blogs like I’m reading my own thoughts, crazy! But yes, when it broke out of twitter that Beyonce had her baby I was more disgusted with the amount of media attention and obsession that they have with these two individuals and their baby. I’m a super Mariah fan and when she had dem babies I was generally excited and happy for her but I wasn’t praising the babies and her and Nick like they are deities People treat Beyonce and Jay-Z like they are Gods. They wanna use them as the ideal example of what married couples should be and how you should do it the “right” way when Jay-Z is an ex drug dealer who started rapping, slept with a countless number of women, was attracted to Beyonce when she was a CHILD at 16 years old and he’s in his mid to late 20s, has a secret love child (debatable) that he doesn’t acknowledge of claim but yet he’s the ideal husband every girl should wish for. Then Beyonce, I love her music and I think she’s a great entertainer, but let’s be honest, he skills include writing “some” songs, adding a line or two to a song that was written by a talented songwriter and then claiming she wrote it, gyrating and shaking her ass like a high class stripper to music and this led to her fame and fortune. But these two people are the “ideal” and we should look up to them? I just don’t get it and this society is obsessed and it’s very annoying.

Sorry for the blog length comment but love the post.

I’m definitely not a Beyonce and Jay-Z stan! People seem to be too obsessed with the lives of celebrities, period. It’s really creepy if you ask me because they’re just people like the rest of us.
